About Zakat

Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is obligatory for Muslims who possess wealth above the nisab threshold for a complete lunar year.

"And establish prayer and give zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah." (Quran 2:110)

Who Must Pay Zakat?

  • Must be a Muslim
  • Must be an adult
  • Must possess wealth above nisab
  • Wealth must be held for one lunar year

Zakat Recipients

  • The poor (Al-Fuqara)
  • The needy (Al-Masakin)
  • Zakat administrators
  • Those whose hearts are to be reconciled
  • Those in bondage (slaves and captives)
  • The debt-ridden
  • In the cause of Allah
  • The wayfarer (stranded traveler)
